Colonic Irrigation

History

The practice of colonic irrigation has been around at least as early as 1500 B.C. An Egyptian document from this period includes this treatment in a list of medical practices from this time. Hippocrates, the founder of modern medicine, wrote of the therapeutic value of an enema for a patient with a fever, whilst an early Christian community used a type of water therapy to cleanse the body and rid it of impurities, as they saw the body as the temple of the soul and did not want it defiled by impurities.
What is it?

Toxin retention in the body can cause varying degrees of ill health. When the colon is not working efficiently, the other elimination organs, such as the liver, kidneys, lungs and skin are forced to work harder to pass waste from the body. Colin irrigation or Colin hydrotherapy as it is sometimes called, very simply is the time-honoured procedure of gentle washing of the large intestine with warm ultra filtered water.

What can it treat?

Colonic irrigation is useful in clearing up entrenched conditions and to prevent accumulation of further waste matter. It can be used in conjunction with other natural therapies for total health care.

Conditions which may benefit from colonic irrigation are:

• Cleansing the bowel from impacted toxins and waste.

• Irritable bowel syndrome.

• Improved metabolic efficiency (helpful in weight management).

• Chronic and acute constipation.

• Fatigue, depression and stress.

• Eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia).

• Skin complaints and body odour.

• Headaches and migraines.

• Bad breath and coated tongue.

How is it used?

The procedure is completely private and a qualified practitioner will explain the entire procedure to you first. All tubing and equipment used is vigorously sterilised or disposable. The duration of a treatment is generally 45-60 minutes and most people respond well and report benefit after the first treatment.

Choosing a therapist

Always check that the practitioner is a fully trained, experienced colon hydrotherapist and that the facility and equipment is completely hygienic.
